Admission to the Juris Doctor program requires a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university. We highly encourage prospective students to check with their undergraduate institution regarding its accreditation status. Students with senior year undergraduate standing may be considered for admission, provided their degree will be conferred prior to law school matriculation.
Applicants are required to submit the following materials:
- A complete, signed, and dated or electronically submitted application
- A 2-3 page personal statement and one page resume (as an electronic attachment with the application or as an e-mail attachment to admissions@johnmarshall.edu).
- A reportable Law School Admission Test (LSAT) score. Applicants for the fall entering class must take the LSAT no later than the June test administration, and are encouraged to register for an earlier administration. Frequently asked questions about JD-NEXT may be found on our FAQ page here.
- Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Applicants must request that the transcripts be sent directly to the Law School Admission Council (LSAC). All applicants must register with the LSAC Credential Assembly Service (CAS) and have a CAS Report sent to AJMLS by the individual writing the letter. If admitted, applicants will have until October 15th of the year they matriculate into the J.D. program to submit all transcripts to AJMLS. All official transcripts verifying all academic credits undertaken and degree(s) conferred must be received by the Law School by October 15th. A student who has failed to submit their official undergraduate transcripts by October 15 will be automatically withdrawn from classes.
- Two letters of recommendation that address the applicant’s character, academic ability, and potential for successful completion of a rigorous law school program. Letters may be sent to LSAC to be included with the CAS report, or mailed directly to AJMLS. Letters from family members may not be used as one of the two mandatory letters.
The Office of Admissions prefers and recommends the use of the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC) for application and document processing. Students who are unable to utilize the LSAC service may submit their downloaded application and documents electronically or via mail. Regardless of submission method, all applicants are considered equally based upon their application materials. If you are disabled or have difficulty accessing the LSAC website or our website, please call the Office of Admissions for assistance at (678) 916-2620. Please note that the LSAC website is not currently accessible for visually impaired applicants using screen readers. However, you may call the LSAC technical support services at (215) 968-1393 for assistance in completing the application through the LSAC website.
Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School believes in giving opportunities to underrepresented categories of applicants, which includes those with a criminal history. However, applicants with open pending charges in any jurisdiction, current incarceration, open probation supervision, and/or open parole supervision will not be able to have their application completed and reviewed until documentation can be provided showing that all open matters are resolved. This documentation must be court issued and must show compliance with all stipulations imposed by the Court’s sentence.
Application Deadline
The Fall 2025 application will be open September 14, 2024 through July 23, 2025. Applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible in order to complete the admissions process in a timely manner and ensure consideration prior to the class becoming full. A file must be complete for a decision to be rendered.
LSAT/CAS
All applicants are required to take the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) and to have their test scores reported to the Law School. The score must be no more than five years old at the time an application is considered by the Admissions Committee. FAQ about the LSAT may be found here.
LSAT dates, deadlines, and score release dates may be found here. You may also call LSAC at (215) 968-1001 or write to them at 662 Penn Street P.O. Box 8508 Newton, PA 18940-8508.
Applicants are required to register with LSAC’s Credential Assembly Service (CAS) to have test results and transcripts processed and sent to the Law School. CAS supplies the Law School with a report summarizing the applicant’s academic profile, LSAT score(s), transcripts, writing samples, and letters of recommendation (if the applicant chooses to send them via CAS). For information regarding CAS or to check their report status, applicants may contact LSAC directly at (215) 968-1001 or LSACinfo@lsac.org.
Reapplication
Students who previously attended Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School (AJMLS), and have not been in attendance at AJMLS for more than one year, must complete the admissions process in the same manner as any other applicant. To be eligible for readmission, the former student must meet all admissions standards applicable at the time of reapplication. It is essential that all time and activity since the student’s previous enrollment be accounted for in the new application.
