Financial Aid Procedures for Accepted Students

The primary mission of the Office of Financial Aid (OFA) is to help eligible students who want to attend law school access federal, institutional and outside financial resources to cover tuition and fees. The purpose of financial aid is to provide funding in order to make attending law school affordable, regardless of their financial resources. We hope the information provided will assist you in planning and making law school affordable. Steps for Applying & Receiving Financial Aid (updated 6/11/24)

Important Dates

July 1st – deadline to complete FAFSA*

July 1st – deadline to complete Entrance Loan Counseling

July 1st – deadline to complete all MPNs for the Unsubsidized Stafford and/or Graduate PLUS Loans

*You may still complete a FAFSA if you don’t have it completed by the deadline listed above. It may cause a delay your financial aid being awarded.

July 1st – Credit application process opens to apply for the Graduate Plus Loan

*Students who have not completed a FAFSA prior to August 1st for the fall will be required to pay tuition in full or enroll in the AJMLS Tuition Installment Payment Program (TIPP). Questions pertaining to tuition and fee charges should be directed to the Office of Student Accounts.

Counseling and Resources

Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School offers individual student loan counseling to admitted law students. To request individual counseling, please reach out to a member of the financial aid team below. In addition, the Financial Aid Office hosts a financial aid specific accepted student event annually in coordination with the Admissions Office. New borrowers must complete Entrance Loan Counseling, and graduating students in their final semester must complete EXIT loan counseling, both at www.studentaid.gov

The Office of Financial Aid is available to assist students who want more 1:1 counseling on managing their student loans. Also, – AccessConnex by AccessLexSM – offers free access to a team of Accredited Financial Counselors who can answer financial questions about borrowing strategies, loan terms, repayment options, credit, and more. Students and borrowers can schedule free, unlimited calls with one of our counselors at a time that works for them.
